Knitty Deep Fall 2017: A Review
Knitty released her Deep Fall 2017 issue. Let's see, right?
Pistachio saffron. It should be a knitted version of the sweater. Not bad. It has a discreet and cozy appearance. The designer suggests that if you don't want it to be as wide, reduce and/or remove the A-line bands.
host cover. It's too much of a model.
Glasgow residents. It's a handy little number.
Unicorn. Comfortable classic hood.
Waterfall. It's comfortable to wear, has a modern look and some nice touches.
Turbulence. I don't know what to call this job. A shrug will do, but it's larger and has more options than a standard shrug. "Shrug" is pretty accurate, but it sounds a bit silly. "Slankette" or the shortened version of "slanket" (blanket without sleeves) can be another idea, but even more stupid. Putting that question aside, while I don't plan on wearing this piece as I prefer the shirt with more defined shape and texture, it is a great layering piece to wear with casual outfits.
boo-boo This design came up when the stylist was designing a sweater, he didn't like the way it fit the model's sweatshirt, so he cut it out entirely. As much as I hate to thwart creative efforts to salvage failed projects and avoid losses, and as beautiful as Fair Isle and the fluted edge are, I don't think the redesign attempt has been entirely successful. The bottom part looks a lot like a sweater reworked with pins. I'd change it up a bit more, either by removing the line of hand stitching that holds it together and adding a zipper or buttons, or by skipping that front trim altogether and keeping the round construction solid.
Vilarinda. They can be worn as a skirt or a scarf and I love the visually interesting lines and colors.
habanero wow, good part. It has a great shape, is flattering and will go well with many outfits and for many occasions.
Cowichan waves. This stylist came up with this hat and caps because she wanted to use the Cowichan weaving techniques she had learned in class (and also wrote an accompanying article on the history of Cowichan weaving). I would say that these items are a valuable addition to the traditional style of Cowichan sweaters.
high voltage. When I first saw these socks, I was shocked at how perfect they were for a date with a Flash Gordon fan, but upon closer inspection, the bursts of energy looked more like sperm to me. I think they could still be a good thing for a date with a Flash Gordon fan, but...maybe not for a first date? But it is definitely your decision. I don't know your life
Lesula. I really like this old school clothes, these elegant men's clothes.
Welcome. This is what you should use to host a dinner party where you want guests to remain a little off balance and confused. Or if you're a manic girl with pixie dreams and everyone knows it's a fact.
pack funk The role was about the stylist's mother, who told her daughter that she "isn't a normal bitch anymore and will continue to wear clothes that don't even try to be normal." (It's really amazing and reminded me of Alison Lurie's lovely little essay written the day she went out of style at age 60. Something. It won't embarrass my kids. I see grandma in it, but I don't think so. The designer has managed creating a holistic design Design requires uncompromising skill and a certain internal logic, while this design is confident and classic and modestly offers some extraneous details.
I'd give up a little here and there. The formation and stitching on the body are excellent. I like the vintage details with the buckles on the front and the silver buttons on the cuffs so I can put them on. A pocket that is the same color as the body of the coat looks freshly washed, so I would do it with another contrasting color or the same color as the base color. Trimming the lace at the hem and cuffs is a good idea, but it's too thin for a sweater, so I'd knit the lace in a fun contrasting color, perhaps to match the color of the bag. I don't like that back neckline with the rounded edges or the way it fits in the front, so I think I can change the shape to a square neckline and maybe add some embroidery to match what's in the bag.
Abstract of the carpet. This little knitted rug is a lovely piece on its own, but I see it more as a modern dollhouse living room rug than a kitchen table cushion. But then I don't know your kitchen table or your dollhouse.
branched. A) Yes. They are beautiful and practical, they adapt very quickly.
