Time to review all of my knitting projects from the previous year. Are you ready to live your knitting life in 2017?

In late 2006, I bought another cranberry yarn with an acrylic buckle for $40 at the Spinright Factory outlet in Listoel, Ontario, where I was able to purchase a second set of yarn for $40. I searched the Ravelry Pattern database for a kids' jacket design suitable for thicker yarns. I did find some patterns that I didn't really like, but their pattern page at least emphasized that 250g of boucal yarn should be enough to create a sweater pattern and size so I tried a hood which was very helpful. In the end, I took a pattern in my library, Smoke with a Ship and Shoes , designed by Debbie Bliss (pictured from the Ravelari Members Project above), and adapted it.





This pattern is called DK Heavy Stitching, so I hold a calculator in my hand and grab a few sheets of notes so I can recreate the number of stitches and lines given as I do this. I don't like floppy collars, so I chose flat collars. I didn't like the details on the sleeves, so I made the cuffs with a drawstring stitch to match the hem and worked the rest of the sleeves with stock stitch. I like to work in the front pocket but I'm not sure I have enough thread so it's a good idea to follow the patch pocket technique so the design tells me it gives me freedom not to make the rest of the jacket. Finished. As a result, there is enough thread for two pockets, but I only made one, because I think it looks better this way: with the two pockets being very similar. Instead of working the heart into a moss stitch pocket or drawstring, I made a heart with beige thread left over from another throw to make the jacket appear brighter.





I am very happy with the result. The jacket looks good and the cut is very good. I rarely weave more synthetic thread, but acrylic pins are one exception - they are surprisingly light, warm, and comfortable to wear. However, working with her can be a bit frustrating, as you'll rarely see any details intertwined in it. When working with bows, it is better to use simple patterns - I will not do a more complex pattern than this jacket. So when I work on the net, I feel like I'm constantly turning around on it and trying to figure out which loops to go through the lace, which to the mouth, and which loops to go through the bodice. The other is when they pass by. Again, according to the same principle, when working with a boucle, errors in the work also disappear and continue to weave very quickly.

It took 235g of hidden yarn to make this sweater and I only had 20g of cranberry balls left. Counting a plaid sweater and three pullovers, I can't say I didn't get $40 of my money back.





In 2014, the nice folks at Darn Good Yarn sent me a free sample of their products , which you can see in the photo above. The DK-Wet Roving Silk Thread Skin (which doesn't seem to have a revival page) was hidden from me for two and a half years when I thought about how to use it. While I found this yarn attractive, I didn't wear pink, purple, yellow, or light blue (or visible) so offload any designs of mine. My great-granddaughter cauliflower loves these colors and it's pretty, so I first decided on it as an intended recipient, then decided last year that this yarn would work well as a contrasting color in a sweater for her eighth birthday gift.





I searched the Ravelry Pattern database for a girl's sweater pattern using DK's two colors and found a cute colorful sweater pattern designed by Elena Nodel. It is really very beautiful, lovely shape and lovely flower pattern which will show your adorable bunch of silk thread. Then I went to Romney Uls in a silky striped leather where I tried to find a basic color to match the jacket. I've fixed the 350g DK faithful faded blue.






And here the resulting jacket size is 8. It is a very well written pattern that is detailed, clear and easy to understand. I am happy with my version of the jacket in general, although I prefer using light blue as the base color, as some points are lost due to the blue fashion for silk and blue of the fabric. The believer is very similar. Except for this slight hold, the color turns out to be an interesting combination that would look great on fair-skinned broccoli, blue eyes, and light brown hair.





I made the same hat with extra yarn. The sweater, hat, dollar store coloring book, notebook, and chalk box I bought together was a very satisfying gift for my eighth birthday.

I have 10 grams left of the new Loyal and used half of 100 grams of Silk Rowing DK leather, which means 40 grams of net stock has been reduced as a result of this project. Now I have to figure out how to use the other half of the Silk Road: I really hope this project gets the most out of it.





In 2016, I knitted a DK green knit pullover with balls of green thread and the image of Manos del Uruguay Alegria above. This project turned out to be a huge mistake, with DK Green completely refusing to bounce like a good quality series and the final product looking poor as a result. I soon realized that I would never wear it, and now I have to make a project plan *two pieces* of yarn instead of one: Green and Allegria. My first attempt to open the cache created at least two other projects to find the cache. It was like beheading a hydra. It's good that I'm totally smitten with Allegria threads.





I was looking for a Ravelry pattern that requires 200g of finger thread and this is the Grace Anne Farrow track . It only takes 100 grams of contrast color, but I think that will be enough because there will be enough to make a pair of Allegria socks. My next step was to visit Romni Wools and choose the base color. I chose the 400g Alpaca Merino Fine from Estelle Yarns in 411 colours, and it's a beautiful deep green olive.





And here's my final jacket. I am happy. The threads work well together, and while I don't have a skirt to wear with this outfit, the jacket looks great with jeans, oil khakis, and olive green velvet pants made from a few years ago. While I kept the look of the jacket untouched, I made some technical changes. I have a Ravelry user who created this article to thank them for saving their knitting time because when I looked at their project page I noticed that many of them complained that the belt was too tight and that the seals that went under the sleeves weren't needed in the armpit area were too heavy. I increased the size of the belt and removed the appropriate gasket. I shortened the jacket by 2 inches or else it would have been 25 inches longer, 23 inches is the length that works for me. You did a good job, otherwise I would have lost the streak. I only had 30g of Estelle fingertips left and I doubt it would be enough to make a 2-inch jacket. I also used 130g of Allegria instead of the 100g indicated on the form, but luckily I have two skins.





Allegria and Estelle are both great and fun to work with, but they each have one drawback. I noticed that the cheer faded a bit after washing (I ran the Cheer and Spring Green jacket through the wash twice to catch up on the spring threads). There is a big difference between an Allegria ball from which a distressed jacket is sewn and an unused Allegria ball. I hadn't thought of photographing it at the time, but the difference is evident in the details captured above: I used scrap yarn first, and the upper blades, woven in virgin yarn, look much brighter than the ones below. My guess is that the old and new threads will fit more or less after a few washes.

For Estelle fingers, it has become one of the interesting hair strands. When I'm knitting, I keep pulling my cat's hair and fur, which isn't good for future socks. Oh, I'm still glad I did that part. This is a very beautiful sweater design. As I often say in my knitting design reviews, a garter stitch project is starting to look like a new design and it takes a skilled designer to create a garter stitch project that looks professional and sophisticated. And like the Amande Tee she made in 2016 , this is a modern jacket with a 1930s feel.

When I finished this project I had 30g of new Estelle yarn left and used another 130g of Allegria yarn, which is a net loss of 100g. Not bad, and I have enough two threads to do something else, which you'll read about later in this post.





These are the 2017 sandals I sew for my dad every year. I think this is my twelfth husband. My father had severe rheumatoid arthritis, especially in the knees and feet.
