Cast On Winter 2017/2018: A Review
Cast On released the winter issue 2017/2018 . Let's get a look.
Vest for Gus. This cardigan is embellished with a chain of embroidered cars on a knitted background. It's a good idea, but cars are so hard to see.
Apurimac hat. It's fun, bright and irresistibly eye-catching. The color palette is also beautifully designed and technically very perfect.
Black and white hat. It's so smart. I love the Christmas tree pattern.
Black and white mittens. I don't like mittens as much as I like a hat. Pointy mittens still seem absurd to me, even though I know it's a very old traditional style.
bubble tunic. I'm not sure if this works well. The overall style seems rather austere and the bubble pattern is too casual and simplistic to work with. I love the idea of the contrast buttons on the cuffs and side slits that connect with the marquetry pattern on the yoke, but I would swap out the bubbles for more detail.
Mood. The combination of square neckline and confetti thread cuffs against the gray body of this sweater doesn't work for me. Seems like a family eccentric Puritan era, like stupid Aunt Happy who thinks it's fun to mess up the Ten Commandments and hurt people.
Celtic night light. Beautiful design and I love that it has an intricate color scheme that symbolizes the Northern Lights.
The fate of Fair of Thomas. I think I like this one - this checkered stripe is really well done - but I'd like to take a closer look at it just to be sure.
dragonfly above. This is weird. I'm not sure I've ever seen a dragonfly as an object on Fair Isle, but now I suddenly want to see more. The color scheme has a washed out, dreamy quality that works very well.
Ski bandage in the form of a dragonfly. I would use it as a tampon rather than a bandage, but then again, the dragonfly pattern definitely looks great no matter what.
Scarf Infinity Icarus. This is a rather delicately elegant thing.
Nikko vest. I don't really like the switches on this one as they look too short for a rather polished item. I would replace them with beautiful buttons and smooth out the drooping shoulders, although, however, they are only slightly dropped and could remain so.
wear a cardigan. It's really magical. I love the combination of floral threads with bollard lace, which gives the feeling of a “summer day in the country”.
Socks made of wheat yarn. This is very nice.
Where did the poncho snakes go? The design is pretty cool and even stylish... but as someone who doesn't like ponchos, I can't help but think how good an Afghan dress would be.
Winter morning socks with cocoa. Very similar to this one. Snowflakes and bare trees studded with diamonds are a fun and creative take on diamond socks.
